Fishtails

Driving with you,
To the coast of Kent.
Laughing and singing.
It’s our day out.
I stroke your hand
Between shifting the gears.
Then rub your neck.
Because I can’t reach to kiss.
We cross the bridge.
The Thames deep below us.
Flying over the border.
My old superhero.
In the cracker sunshine now.
Walking the prom.
Sharing salty fishtails.
Telling our story.
All those years.
Now we are right here.
The sun halos us.
The saints of Whitstable.
And apprentice waves flatter to crash.
While kites of time lead us home.
Shaggy dogs barking our reunion.
We’ll sell sea shells no more.
