Tea for Three

I like making
you cups of tea
in your special mug, and that.
Sitting opposite,
talking about the smallest details
that make the world big.
I like it that we always dance,
keep one eye on the dog
and she on us.
For we are three.
An odd number, yelping and swaying.
Trying for an even keel.
The kettle's on.

Hi Ralph.
Hi Ralph.
I loved this poem for the celebration of ordinariness. Right from the start you thrilled me with - 'in your special mug and that.' and the starkness of - 'talking about the smallest details that make the world big.' - simply wonderful! And the idea of the dog being so much a part of your partnership of three is lovely, as is the inclusion of 'yelping' with the 'laughing trying for an even keel.' Nice finish, too. Good humour!
Very much enjoyed,
