And there she was. In a blue dress she stood, her straight hair curled at the very tips, drop dead gorgeous. As she talked to her friends, her head move lightly, and with it her hair, and with them my eyes. I took a deep breath, as if I wasn’t sure I would be able to breathe when I got close to her. And with the breath, I changed my course and walked towards her. The room was already loud, but it seemed to get even louder, with each step. From a room full of people it became a country fair, them from a country fair to a baseball stadium and peaked as a symphony orchestra. Even though she hadn’t noticed, I was a few feet away from her and the noise, my heart beat, adrenaline all came to a crescendo. All that was left for me to do was say a simple “hi” and my symphony orchestra could finish their piece to thundering applause. A simple “hi” was all I needed, but I walked right past her.
“God damn it.” The crescendo vanished. The conductor died. My bad, I shot him in the head. “Unbelievable.”
