Chapter 1
Lies have been confused with truth and the truth has been confused with lies… In life it seems we are all just like books hidden behind covers; where our story is much different then the one the world appears to believe.
A tall, skinny and nervous looking girl stared up at a sign reading ‘Halwin Falls High School’. She dressed in clothes that suited her well but looked like she had made sure that they wouldn’t stand out. The girl made sure to keep her face hidden, but the way she did it was quite strange though- it was almost as if her life depended on it. Making it seem like if anyone were to look her directly in the eyes they would recognise her from somewhere and call her up on it. The way she scurried away and out of peoples sight with that scared expression on her face, almost had you convinced that everyone around her were potentially explosive. It was stranger even still that her blonde hair burned bright like the sun and could be seen for miles
The girl kept her head down so low to that if she were blind it wouldn’t of made a difference because either way; it didn’t look like she could see where she was going. She awkwardly waddled into a parade of people at the front entrance. Shoving while trying not to be shoved and into a long corridor… A few boys wolf whistled to her as she sped on down the corridor; trying not to be late for class, she didn’t once look up. But if she did, she would have noticed the expressions on their faces as they caught sight of her--- which could’ve easily made any girl blush bright red like a tomato. Or she would’ve at least noticed the figure sprinting from out of the doorway in front of her.
She collided with a hard forehead and a hairful of black, flying in opposite directions and books scattering like lollies at a lolly scramble. Except no-one was scrambling for them. Both victims looked up to meet each others gaze. A girl with a gothic looking hairstyle, in a mixture of fluorescent and black styled clothing was rubbing her forehead. Trying not to look pissed. Her naturally long and dramatic eyelashes swept across her face as she was blinking furiously. While the shy girl looked terrified and frozen in her spot. There was a few seconds of deafening silence before someone broke it.
Then the gothic girl burst out laughing. “You look absolutely terrified!” this time she quickly got up on her feet. The shy girl still looked scared and didn’t say a word, so the gothic girl spoke again. “ I have to admit, I was a little pissed that you weren’t watching where you were going because — that did kinda hurt… but then I saw your face—and o-m-g” she let out another laugh and then stopped to look at the poor shy girl on the floor. “Geez, it’s alright—I’m not gonna bite your head off” But the shy girl still stared wide-eyed down at the floor.
The gothic girl scrunched up her face it looked a little like the shy girl’s reaction had hurt her. “You… really don’t need- to be soo scared yunnoo…” and as the gothic girl said this she helped her up off the ground. The shy girl tried to smile at the gothic girl as a courtesy for helping her up but she still couldn’t even look at her face.
The gothic girl smiled quite a bright smile for someone in such dark clothing and looked to the books on the floor. Without thinking she started shuffling the books up and handing them to her. The shy girl smiled and tried to smile so she could see it. She managed to get out a small thank you. “It’s alright.” The gothic girl said as she smiled “But it’s probably best that you don’t carry your books around in your arms all day… these corridors can get pretty crowded and… you have to have super strength to open these bad boys.” She banged on a couple of the lockers and let out a laugh. The shy girl seemed to nod looking like she hadn’t expected her to be so nice. o-okk- then” she said stuttering a little bit. But as if the she hadn’t heard her small reply the gothic girl kept on staring at her, looking like she was trying to read her mind or something. The way she did it seemed to make the poor shy girl shake like a leaf.
“What was your name” she finally said “ ummm, my name…
"- Lu-cy Knightly”
The gothic girl gave an awkward smile and shook her hand. “ I’m Ava Boday- spelt with an E though not an A at the start.” The girl nodded and as quickly as that Eva was on her way waving from behind her and shouting down the other end of the corridor “ Well it was nice meeting you Lucy , bye!” The shy girl tried to catch a glimpse of her face as she walked away but couldn’t see from behind her hair. As soon as Lucy was sure Eva was out of sight, a strangely bitter almost wicked look took hold of her face and her tone changed sour. “…see ya…” she whispered. Her face went back to normal as soon as she walked into Algebra.
