“Therefore we do not lose heart …”*

[A day early for the hymn-for-Sundays series as may be offline for a week]
A glorious task, such gospel to make known
– not for our praise, and not with error sown,
God’s Spirit pierces through the veil that blinds,
his gospel bringing Life, enlightening minds.
So we do not lose heart, eternity
will show the fruit of gospel ministry.
Our hearts are lifted as we contemplate
though we are worn, perplexed, in weakly state
the treasure of the Life and power He’s given
in fragile jars, is real, transforming us for heaven.
So we do not lose heart, our eyes look on
to unseen glory, joy for which we long.
For troubles may be heavy and oppress
our bodies age, but inwardly He’ll bless,
renewing daily through afflictions long
to bring far greater weight of glory soon.
So we do not lose heart – these times are brief
and joy will be eternal, free of grief.
* “ For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:1,16,18 and the rest.
