3 Wintry Haiku

Winter wilderness:
waiting wilted world without;
welcome warmth within.

Fine friends foregather,
dreary darkening drizzly day,
cheer each other, chat.

Snow softly smoothing
dirt, decay under duvet –
mud, mulch, hard, hidden.

Thank you for the cherries. Haiku isn't something I've attempted before. I gather one should avoid metaphoric language usually. I don't know if calling the snow a duvet is metaphoric language, and if so whether that matters anyway?! Rhiannon

You are on the right track, Rhiannon. Traditionally haiku are about nature.

Thanks, Luigi. I wasn't expecting to have a go immediately at this, but the thoughts came to mind and seemed to fit the scheme, and I enjoyed it. Rhiannon

Thank you, Jenny. I was thinking that Haiku is something I had never tried, and felt very usure of, but these  thoughts on some of the differing aspects of wintertime, came to mind and actually seemed to fit that form. So, useful exercise, but enjoyable too thinking about the trying times of winter, but also the beauty, and the encouragement we can give each other, when warmly wrapped, or meeting in warm homes!
