Aber Mawddach*

The streams are flowing, the river growing,
from mountain tumble to lowland amble
that slowly wanders and meanders,
until an estuary with tidal range,
and daily change:
the ‘Aber’ of the watercourse
that’s reached the sea from highland source;
like, Aber Mawddach*:
with its famous long bridge where you walk by the train –
half a mile to drink in, let the beauty sink in
of the breathtaking landscape, the hilly terrain,
and sandscapes below, changed by tide ebb and flow.
*Mawddach is pronouned Maw-thach, where ‘th’ is hard as in ‘that’, and the ‘aw’ is as when you hurt yourself.
