Cherry

Suddenly the slow emergence
comes rushing out in full abundance
trickle of colour becomes a flood
by rain and sun drawn out of mud –
beauty cascading in to fill
the fields and banks, excite and thrill;
bouquet disguises sloe hedge thorny –
bedecked in froth, no longer scrawny;
on banks and meadows, roadside verges
primrose patches, cloudy surges
of dainty, wafting lady’s smock
– a favourite caterpillar snack;
the woods with vibrant carpet hue
and here and there amongst the blue.
wood anemone in pools of white;
screaming swifts’ distinctive flight, ,
sunshine, showers short, and rainbows,
cuckoo calls and swooping swallows.

(Unlike 'January', 'February', and March',  'April' is not based at all really on Eifion Wyn's 'Ebrill' [April] )

Today, I revised my 'March', as I think it implied the leaves would be more out by the end of the month, but the 'trickle becoming a flood' seems to sum up what we hope to see this coming month  (http://www.abctales.com/story/rhiannonw/march)

Thanks, Jean. I suppose we have the ups and downs of weather every month, but April is a lovely time of seeing the full growth and beauty emerge again, isn't it? Rhiannon

The weather seems to have dominated the writings on this site of late, with emphasis on its downside but your poem, Rhiannon, reminds us that there other things, apart from the rain, for us to realise that spring is upon us in its full glory. Congratulations on the cherries, fruits of your labour.

The month of April holds so much beauty, a time for long walks and spring flowers, thinking about what flowers to grow in the garden. You summed up all these things in your beautiful poem Rhiannon.
