The Beauty in the Eye of the Beholder (IP)

An organ beautiful, the eye
which beauty can behold:
its good design we magnify,
its mysteries unfold.
Immense its range of light detection,
with microscopic structures
for focus, movement, fine protection,
to show us life in pictures.
The images we couldn’t hold,
they’d fade away, it’s reckoned
if not for ‘tremors’, well controlled,
at fifty times a second
(if such a fading face should smile,
just like a Cheshire Cat
a disembodied mouth profile
we’d see – who’d fancy that?!).
They’re all of beautiful construction,
those muscles, rods, cones, nerves,
linked to a brain where information
can undergo such transformation
for ‘seeing’ with appreciation
beauty our eye observes.

Hi Rhiannon
Hi Rhiannon
Again lots of interesting information in this piece. I am starting to appreciate my eyes more now that I am slowly losing sight.
