[Continuing the hymn-for-Sundays series]

A stranger poor, she could but glean,
on charity dependent,
her faithful kindness had been seen,
received reward abundant:
the master and his men made sure
she had their full protection,
on purpose left her gleanings more,
and shared their lunch provision.

This was in Bethlehem, long ago,
where faith in God had waned,
but Ruth, from Moab, came to know
Him, and his blessings gained.
That girl the godly master wed –
what joy at Obed’s birth,
and his descendant, far ahead
would be Christ, come to earth.

Your story is not so easy to read I would say the language is very mature. A humble woman of great virtue and loyalty an example to us all. The beautiful words of Ruth, refusing to leave her mother in law Naomi,

And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:

And more modern, I love you, I love you, and where you go I'll follow, I'll follow!

Thank you for quoting that verse. I think I attached it to the little  poem I did on Ruth, whcih I gave the link for.

I think I have been to a wedding where the words of Ruth 1:16,17 were used in the vows!
