Many gladly dig, revealing
others’ sins, their own concealing;
don’t consider pressures past
trivialising sins which now leave all aghast.
But now, do they regret
behaviour of that time desire to forget?
living presently by better rules,
wishing that they hadn’t been such fools?
It’s hard to publicly confess
such details of a mess
especially if some such accusations are untrue –
such mix of muck with innuendo threading through.
And in the future?
Maybe one day some sins that now
are thought to be respectable
will then be seen as totally, completely unacceptable,
and many who at present feel complacent
will feel much shame of attitudes for which they humbly will repent.

This made me think of the Post Office scandal, how so many to be trying to blame someone else. No one in power comes out of it looking good, and best to say sorry rather than point their finger

I like the rhythm and rhyming in this. I imagine it took a while to pull together. There are lots of examples to draw upon that make the point of the poem. It's very nicely done, Rhiannon. Paul
