Dreamy …

By Rhiannonw
- 1948 reads
A thoughtful tale, a pleasant book,
the mind in daydream drifts …
book shut, eyes close, into, and
out of sleep,
consciousness slips:
distorted mixed-up stories swim
around that dreaming head
in places far-away from
restful, comfortable bed,
but with return to partial wakefulness,
a rested thought
may sometimes capture that
elusive thread that had been caught
somewhere in some sub-conscious place,
but rises now, is clear
(and must be written down before deep
soothing sleep draws near).
What then? who knows what silent times,
or dreams unknown then play …
the multi-layered scenes
of night-time’s ‘day’ –
some remnants may remain
when startled suddenly awake,
but most evaporate
as rested soul moves from the fake –
imagination’s pleasantly created
fairy realm,
or anxious, troubled, dithering scenes
that threatened to overwhelm –
to tend the daily mix of task and chore
til time arrives to rest again, once more …

I like your poem Rhiannon,
I like your poem Rhiannon, especially the stanza:-
What then? who knows what silent times,
or dreams unknown then play...
the multi-layered scenes
of night-time's 'day' -
some remnants may remain
when startled suddenly awake,
but most evaporate
as restful soul moves from the fake -
imagination's pleasantly created
fairy realm,
or anxious, troubled, dithering scenes
that threatened to overwhelm -
It's strange how the longest part of a dream can be just before waking, which maybe only took about a few minutes to create, yet somehow we imagine we've been dreaming all night.
I like how you bring those feelings out in this poem.
Thank you for sharing.
Jenny.

Hi Rhiannon
Hi Rhiannon
I used to write immediately upon waking, as I found that I was so involved in writing a story that I would dream about it, and the dreams always moved the plot along. Nowadays, I listen to classical music before I go to sleep, and that is probably why I decided to research the Elgars.
