Emerging treasures

Buried seeds bring fields of poppies,
wheat, potatoes – which rebound,
yielding fields of buried treasure
in the autumn, underground!

Squirrels bury bounty treasure
of the nuts they gather – more
than their present needs, but others
may discover hidden store.
************
Romans, when invaders threatened
knew that they must flee, and leave
treasure, which they buried quickly
hoping later to retrieve.

great IP response Rhiannon. When I first moved to the country I remember someone explaining that the fields of poppies only happened when the earth had been dug - it was like a last hurrah for a building site (and a very glorious one too). I believe that's why the Flanders fields too

Isn't it funny how squirrels bury their treasured nuts, yet never come back to claim them? We're always finding Hazel nuts in the flower pots when we come to empty the old dead plants out.
That was such a great idea for the I P this week.
