Mathematical analysis
of aesthetically pleasing shapes,
shell structure,    
spiralling sunflower seeds,
artwork and architecture
that pleases the eye;
musical balance
appreciated by the ear,
and mind:
design in nature
design in artistic culture:
mathematical golden ratio,
and Fibonacci sequence
ubiquitous:
functionality and efficacy,
with added beauty  –
why?

It IS interesting, isn't it?

No matter how clever our science we will never be able to make anything as perfect as what occurs in Nature

Thanks, Di. Yes, and as we admire man's designs of skill and beauty, we can admire the more the designs in nature, and their Designer/Creator (who gives us such  beauty too)! Rhiannon

I was never very interested in maths at school - as long as I could count my change I couldn't really see the point of the rest of it.  Many years later I came across things like natural structures and the Fibonacci sequence and I became fascinated by numbers.  I really wish I had been told about all that when I was at school.

About the unintentional comment - if you just click on 'delete' on the list at bottom of the comment, that should do it.

A lot depends on how well you relate to a teacher on any subject doesn't it? Maths can seem very humdrum, can't it? My husband is a mathematician, and he and others I know say how much beauty there is in seeing the mathematical patterns in the universe.

I don't think we have a 'delete' button for comments. Is it just something the editors have? Rhiannon

Be careful when deleting comments Rhiannon. If the comment has a reply from anyone, I think it deletes that too

Thanks, Insert. I was only thinking of this sort of thing where one has clicked on 'save' for the comment as an empty box when saving a piece, by mistake. I've noticed others with these empty comments, probably done by mistake too. As I said to Airy, I don't think we have a 'delete' button ourselves. Not here or in 'edit comment' mode. Rhiannon

Thanks, probably wouldn't be worth bothering you! Even if it were a real comment regretted, not an empty box, one could delete the content if not the box. It does explain why there are so many of these empty comment boxes around! Rhiannon
