Harness!

Friction heats to spark a light
in a match, which can ignite
fire in wood and coal so bright,
beacon warming in the night,
dancing flames of orange, red:
but confine! they must not spread
to destroy and damage, hurt,
reducing all around to dirt.

I like this Rhiannon.
I like this Rhiannon.
It's concise with a good rhythm which makes it flow off the tongue when read.

This is a lovely poem, short and to the point. Fire is such a beautiful and yet dangerous thing.

Nicely done. I have a poem using rhyme and meter I should post from months ago. Maybe soon. I enjoyed your take on the IP. Paul :)

How you have "confine!" in
How you have "confine!" in the middle of the line, breaking the flow, works so well, it really stands out as a warning, and the rest of the poem explaining why. I wonder if first people using fire might have had rhymes like this? Even not so long ago when coal fires were in all houses, children must have been tought something along these lines?
