Hawthorn

White May bouquet, tumbling in the hedge,
pattern delicate, exquisite:
white petals, pale green centres, red anther spots,
(sometimes the petals rich pink);
hardy clinging in rock clefts high in mountains;
later bright red bird food for autumn.

A lovely encomium to the hawthorn and economic too. I love the smell, it is so redolent of early summer! I remember it in hedgerows from aeons ago.

I am really appreciate hawthorn bloosom this spring. We have a tree att he side of the house, and have never had such lovely blosson. My son makes wine with the berries in the autumn. Lovely poem.
