White May bouquet, tumbling in the hedge,
pattern delicate, exquisite:
white petals, pale green centres, red anther spots,
(sometimes the petals rich pink);
hardy clinging in rock clefts high in mountains;
later bright red bird food for autumn.

That's lovely! And your photos are good too, very clear on your close up one. My son said yesterday when walking to school the air was full of petals

Thank you,That must have been lovely.. I always feel sorry when the hawthorn blossom browns off, but it is so beautiful for such a while, and the detail when you look closely at the little patterened individual flowers.. We have a red one in the garden which has only just come fully out. A lovely shade of deep pink. Rhiannon

Hi,

A lovely encomium to the hawthorn and economic too. I love the smell, it is so redolent of early summer! I remember it in hedgerows from aeons ago.

Oh, thank you, Hilary! I love seeing the hillside near us suddenly patched with white-blossomed trees, showing which of the trees there are hawthorn! And I've learned  a new word, 'encomium' too! Rhiannon

I am really appreciate hawthorn bloosom this spring. We have a tree att he side of the house, and have never had such lovely blosson. My son makes wine with the berries in the autumn.  Lovely poem.
