Before He rose up to heaven

 … and then the Day of Pentecost, remembered today

“Stay here in the city until
I clothe you with power to go
to the ends of the earth to fulfil
my works so all people will know
forgiveness is offered, supplied
to those who repent, for I died.”

They waited and prayed and He came
with audible, visible sign –
His Spirit like wind bringing flame
to strengthen, equip and refine.
In languages various, God’s Word
by miracle visitors heard.

‘Are not these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language … telling in our own tongues the mighty works of God.’ Acts 2:8-11
