Illumination leaking in …

Confined to bed,
an open window,
a far-away hoot,
a fox’ bark
a midnight car passing quickly by …
welcome dawn,
beautiful song, chorus,
clear trills resound,
increasing light,
relieving draft, cool breeze …
a cheery ‘Bye’
as a car draws away
for a working day,
soon muted chatter and laughter –
the trails of school children
heading for classroom
and play,
quiet of mid-morning,
toddler laughter as
Mum puts out the washing.
Irritable refusal to go back in,
howls
(will she be wise
and the child realise
the benefit of borders,
pray Mum not too tired)…
scents drift in…
a buzzing wasp around the window…
school children return,
laughter and banter
joy of release…
the evening settles down,
tired returnees from work,
cooking smells,
try to decipher
before downstairs cooking aromas creep up;
the window closed awhile …

This is a brilliant thought
This is a brilliant thought provoking poem for the I P. I think you've captured all the sounds from our street completely Rhiannon.
Jenny.

I hope you are not confined
I hope you are not confined to bed anymore? You have made such a detailed portrait, so vivid. The "eyes are the window of the soul" and in your poem, through a windows we see the soul of a house :0),

This really got into my head
This really got into my head Rhiannon. As I read, I could really imagine lying there, confined but still living through all the sounds from the open window. Reminded me of being a small child and sent to bed in summer when I wasn't at all sleepy, how I used to lie in bed and hear the world outside and wonder why I had to go to bed so early when the world was still buzzing.
