Inconsistencies

“Don’t slap the child”,
though sure and instant,
brief and comprehended
demonstration that the
deed was wrong and damaging
to self and others.
“Don’t smack the child –
you’re teaching him (or) her to hit”
– the child has sense enough
to know you take no pleasure in it.
Indeed a child unsmacked,
unhappily may persevere and provoke
exasperated stroke
before too long.
“Don’t spank a child” – in love
and care that they be spared
the bumps that come to those who
grow so full of self-desires,
no interest for the need of those around.
“Don’t smack a child” –
but before birth, pain felt and lethal
can be inflicted if
his (her) arrival inconvenient.

Some very tough decisions
Some very tough decisions but corporal punishment is definitely biblical although it appears it is only boys and sons that must be so discipled. And as you say it is sometimes necessary. I would say only as last resort. Firm controlled and yes, always consistent. It means resist the heat of the moment, one should never act on anger and impulse.
Anyway what do I know of bringing up children? Quite serious.
Keep well! Tom
