"It's just coming out as doggerel …"

A ‘not-quite-right’ verse
can seem much worse
than doggerel, just terrible.
You want to throw it in the bin,
but
a little niggle,
puts the squiggle, scribble,
on a ‘back-burner’ pile,
to let it simmer, forgotten for a while,
in case one day you get a new idea,
and suddenly it’s clear
the shift of words, or thought, or rhyme
that makes it tick,
the rhythm click,
and say what you want to say
in a clear, and simple, intelligable way.

This is a nice description
This is a nice description of what it's like to write a poem you are satisfied with- well almost satisfied. Glad you posted this.

putting it aside for a bit
putting it aside for a bit is a really good idea. One I practice mostly but not always- and hence resulting in bad stuff- or not quite good enough.

Hi Rhiannon
Hi Rhiannon
Nicely put. I love the way you twist and turn words to make your rhyme and your point.
