Keeping things nice

Not personal!

“Sugar and spice and all things nice”.
– that’s the life for me!
nothing unpleasant, all my own choice,
no heeding of any authority …

the sugar turns sour, the spice goes stale,
things that were nice no longer suffice
the laughs and the haze in the lights of night
end in darkness of morning, mourning:
“I care for nobody, no not I, and nobody cares for me.”

“Sugar and spice and all things nice”
keep better if rationed and shared,
and even obedience to those in authority
whose rules are for all prepared.
