King David’s Struggles

[Continuing the idea of a hymn on Sundays]

King David, choice of God for ruling,
his people leading many years;
composer, singing psalms appealing,
revealing faith he’d learnt in tears.

Whatever causes of his turmoil:
his sin, his troubles, scheming Saul:
however low, he’d still in prayer toil,
and on the Lord of promise call.

For laying hold of all God’s promised, –
see: that’s how David struggled up, –
a way of grace his God had furnished, –
the Lord himself would drink the cup.

And all his failings he acknowledged;
for his repentance was sincere.
He trusted, pleaded: God provided
assurance, peace, removed his fear.

I don't know the hymn but the words here are very powerful and proud. I'm particularly fond of the 'revealing faith he’d learnt in tears' line. Such a story there.

thanks, LC. The tears indicating his true turning in repentance to God, rather than just a regretting of wrong doing, or of being caught out, which would be remorse rather than the returning and faith of repentance, I suppose. And also, the real troubles and trials he went through, desperately needing God's help. Rhiannon

And we could all learn by taking to heart the last verse, Rhiannon.  I am not familiar with any of the tunes, so I shall try to research them.

I so look forward to reading these every Sunday, and although I do not always get time to comment then, be sure I always read them...inspiring, and comforting, as they always are.

I love David's psalms, and feel someone capable of writing that well, must have been truly inspired by God.

Thanks, Jean. A good point, though of course, 'All scripture is inspired by God …' (2 Timothy 3:16)

There is so much of all life's experiences so vividly and honestly told, and the grace and faith in the Lord helping him and teaching him His ways. Rhiannon
