Life's fuel

The farmers tend
it, and then they send
it to shops, we spend
on it, for we depend
on it, and then we bake
it, and like to make
it into cake and meal
that will appeal
and keep us living;
but who is giving
much thanks and thought
– we really ought,
for in some countries
there’s hunger, disease
from drought and war,
or the lifeline‘s diverted,
stored
in secret hoard –
for some, corrupt,
supplies disrupt,
grow rich and fat
in greed on that
which others need
to feed, survive.

I like this Rhiannon. A tight and topical rhyme. I can almost hear Stormzy reciting it.

Listening to the news, we
Listening to the news, we really are so lucky, as you say! I like very much how you make food sound like a force, like water or electricity, that can be blocked - your rhyme and rhythm helps with that feeling of movement

Nicely done with a lovely rhythm, Rhiannon.
An important message too. Food is such a vital commodity and subject to corruption. We are lucky that we can just run down to the local shop or visit a supermarket. Many around the world haven't got that luxury.

The promised land
The promised land. Jip. This is the land of milk and honey, do some work in a garden for a morning, go to the grocers and buy a 2 liter of milk and a jar of honey. What else than? Not for everyone unfortunately, depends on your country I guess, as you say.
Exccellent rhyme, natural, easy, not artificial, not forced.
See you Rhiannon! Tom

An accurate observation of
An accurate observation of two different enviroments, and how we should give thanks every day for the food we are able to grow and eat, while some countries are either less able, or do not have the right conditions.
Well told Rhiannon.
Jenny.
