There’s a place to put your shoes:
put them back on the rack!
There’s a place to put your pens:
put them in the special tin!
There’s a bag for dirty clothes,
and a drawer there for the clean
When you go to bed at night
don’t just leave the clothes you wore
where they drop down on the floor:
What a sight!
 
You know you will not want to face
the stress of clearing up the mess,
so put the things away
into their place
one by one
throughout the day
– so much better in the long run!

I might get my 27-year old son to read this! He's always leaving them lying around rather than putting them away.

An ideal poem for children (and adults) and written in a way that makes the whole thing fun. You do these educational ones so well, Rhiannon. Paul

Thank you. I was very dismissive of the being inspired by the word 'place' after idly following that IP suggestion, but this content started bubbling into my mind in the middle of the night, and from experience recently, and memories of my oldest son having a very small bedroom when very young, ans his sister a largish one. It was proobably partly temprement, but his was usually tidy, and he said it was just that he hated having to do a big tidy-up! I told another son recentlhy that I had nearly fallen over his shoes and I think he was a bit shamed by it, and he is a father …Rhiannon

This is a really interesting Inspiration Point isn't it? I'm glad you found something for your word in the end - I'm very much of the same opinion as you for myself, but I did not manage to pass it on to either of my sons - luckily they have to trip over their own shoes nowadays!

Thank you. i'm not a good 'putter-awayer' myself, though I think I'm sensitive about the floor and too much muddle.  My husband was very 'Poirot-like' in his need for tidyness or  it worried him, and he couldn't find things. Hopefully after the more than 50 years, I've been influenced to be a bit more careful, and he to be a bit more relaxed! Rhiannon

I am not a good "putter awayer" either :0) But worse is when I put things away in the wrong place, like the tea in the fridge, instead of the milk! As Paul says, another good advice poem :0) Lovely photo, too!

thanks. Sometimes when the 'dropping things, leaving things' gets extreme, and they are faced with the misery of big 'tidy-ups' it gives motivation to be a bit more careful, and that 'a stitch in time' does really save time 'in the long run'! (and can help avert accidents!) Rhiannon
