[Continuing the hymn-for-Sundays series]
Wise words to treasure, hoard –
keys from the Super-Lord:
keep constantly in thought
life-tools to use as taught.
Risky to wander near,
to mischief giving ear,
deceived, and suddenly
falling so foolishly.
Few fully realise
deceptive evil’s guise:
slip, yield, soon caught to stay:
turn, quickly rush away!
His heeded words fore-warn
of poison and wild storm,
remembered words fore-arm,
protect us from much harm.
Tune: 66 66 iambic eg St Cecilia (Tune of ‘Thy kingdom come, O God)
