The Sad Singing Washing Machine

Washing machine starts a mad beep song
– message on screen – something’s wrong.
Call to the makers (just out of warranty)
book an engineer to come, please quickly.

One afternoon before he’s been,
suddenly hear those lively beeps again
– turn round – an enraptured toddler peeps
at where her poking finger’s found
a button to press to make that lovely sound
(the switch for ‘ON’ triggering that song)!

and when the engineer came he brought
out two RSPB pin badges
(I think, a mandarin duck and a flower)
and teasingly taught
to carefully remove such things
for the water seal was pierced
by their thin sharp pins.

I can relate to this poem Rhiannon. Our washing machine plays a tune at the end of the cycle.

Thank you, Jenny. Ours doesn't when it finishes, but this was a very bizarre 'tune' obviously designed to call for attention to the damaged machine! The toddler's face was a picture when she discovered the 'tune' coming forth after her poke! Rhiannon

Everything in the kitchen seems to beep at me these days!  Is it the washing machine, the dishwasher, the microwave, the oven, the induction hob because the cat's sitting on it... ?  Your toddler could conduct a symphony in my flat!

If she were allowed to climb around! At the age where sadly learning some things can't be allowed, some buttons must be left alone and dangerous climbing avoided! Rhiannon

sounds to me like she has inherited your musician gene :0) When she is wowing thousands with her electronic music you will remember this washing machine:0)

!!smiley Both the children have a love of music even at their age, which isn't surprising as their father is playing a lot etc. I remember the older surprising the congregation at chapel by dancing to the hymns in th aisle when she was a toddler! Rhiannon

My washing machine made a beeping noise last week. Turned out it couldn't be fixed so had to buy a new one. Bah.

We take them for granted while their working, and realise that when they suddenly so inconveniently stop!

As I said above this one really has been much more reliable than some we'd  had, but it couldn't cope with those pins! Rhiannon
