School absence,
home presence –
what a noise
from a little boy’s
questions and chatter
and ‘what is the matter
with my head and my tum,
Mum?’

School presence,
home absence –
the silence now golden,
but, oh, it’s so sudden,
so loud that it frazzles
creativeness, dazzles
her brain –
and soon they’ll be home
once again.

This feels 'right there', both parts of your poem, Rhiannon. I hope you are making a booklet of your children's poems they often remind me of A.A. Milne in a good way.

Thank you for that encouraging comment, Elsie. On their last birthdays, I did make little books for my 3 granddaughters.

Actually I started off on this subject wondering about trying to do something about the difference it used to be when my children were home sick - with one, if she wasn't talking, you were aware she would be the next minute, with another, he always was so relaxed, you could forget he was home some of the time!

But something a bit simpler came together! Rhiannon
