He invited his ‘friends’ to the party,
and then prepared it all.
When everything was ready,
he sent the usual call –
but they didn’t feel like going,
each made excuse, declined.
He felt repulsed, and angry,
instructed his servant to find
the poor, the blind, the crippled,
the homeless who gladly would
come, valuing what was on offer –
free gift of wonderful food!

Hi Rhiannon,
Hi Rhiannon,
it's so awful when this happens. I remember when I was living in a block of flats and I invited loads of people to my 30th birthday, but only a few turned up, so to make the numbers up, I invited all the neighbours in my block, they came gladly and in the end we had a great time.
At times things don't always work out the way we plan them, so we just have to make the best of the moment.
Thoughtful poem.
Jenny.

Rhiannon, Jenny, the poem and
Rhiannon, Jenny, the poem and the comment stirred up memories....
Jenny you are more goodhearted than I sometimes am. When my younger one was one, I invited 2 of the Mother and toddler club mums and some neighbours who never showed to an afternoon kids birthday bash in my flat after we had a planned outing to the soft play and ball pool at the leisure centre. Everything went wrong, one Mum made a giant tub of sickly ice cream that never fitted my little freezer box and turned to mush, the other mums kid bit a baby in the ball pool and she pretended it never happened, my video packed in and biter-kid's Dad who had dropped out of an engineering course at uni couldn't be bothered to fix it. When I was in the kitchen I said to my elder one in a very loud voice 'when the Hell are they going to go home' and lost 2 not very good friends.
On a more cheerful note, other parties I have given have all been better than this!
The Pope does his bit, giving out free food to people who are homeless and skint near the Vatican. So you, Jenny and his Holiness are both setting a good example
