A seed that multiplied

It fell on the soil
not pecked by a bird,
slithered down a crack
(ear welcomes good word?)
rested warm and safe
through the winter cold
til the warmth came back    
triggering chemistry, growth
– the embryo enlarge, uncoil
break through its coat,
and the root
push down
gleaning moisture below,
if there’s a depth of good earth
(good word considered);
as the shoot
pushes up
searching light above
to emerge and its leaves unfold
turn green in the sunlight –
food factory feed it    
for flourishing, flowering,
rich fruit
(unless it grow among weeds that choke
like greed in the heart strangles truth)
dispersing multiple seeds,
(good words, good deeds) …

A seed growing in a congenial environment will germinate and multiply if care is taken not to let it be smothered by weeds.  Similarly, good words and good deeds will flourish and spread if not strangled by selfishness. A sound, uplifting message, Rhiannon.

Thanks, Luigi. An opposite to your 'seed of suspicion'! The truth must be valued and nurtured, the suspicion and lies noticed and cast out! This is reminiscent of Jesus' parable of the sower. Rhiannon

Good, it's a story actually? I remember schooldays we grew beans in wet cottonwool on the windowsill It was fascinating watching them germinante and grow exactly like this. The nutrition to start off was stored in the bean itself. Like an egg. Nature is amazing.

As I said to Luigi, Tom, I had in mind Jesus' Parable of the Sower and the different sorts of soil that the seed of his Word might land in.

Yes, seeds are wonderful things, like buds, all that is stored to start the little plant off until it can make food itself when its leaves green in sunlight. Children always love watching a broad bean seed grow in a jam jar.
