Slowly emerging, January to March

Bleached and scruffy verges,
scrawny, thorny, de-fleshed hedges;
a flush and blush of green suffuses
the roadside edges, while the hedges’
twigs grow bumpy, slowly swelling
buds enlarge 'til leaves emerge;
on mud and leaf-mould in the wood
a scattered spattered pattern – surging
curling stems and leaf-blades poke and peep:
the springtime carpet wakes from sleep.

I love to notice the first
I love to notice the first signs of spring. It makes one feel hopeful, as did your poem for me, Rhiannon. 'a scattered spattered pattern' - that's lovely! '(till) leaves emerge'
Enjoyed.

Rhiannon, I can almost feel
Rhiannon, I can almost feel the bursting of Spring in my hands and eyes and lungs from your poem. The aliveness, it feels exciting and sort of prickly, Spring as a lovely poetic hedgehog! Elsie

This is such a beautiful poem
This is such a beautiful poem, of the hope of the coming season Rhiannon. It had me in mind of that hymn; Morning has Broken, loved it when Cat Steven's sung it.
By the way, congrats on the well deserved gold cherries.
Jenny.
