Springing Back to Life — nature (IP)

Our world is slowly creeping forward
on its yearly journey onward,
tilting nearer to the sun:
northern springtime has begun!
Bulb which grows when cold – two spears
protrude and elongate, – the year’s
first noticeable growth from still,
apparent death of winter's chill.
A single stem extending soon,
with sheath enclosing drop-like bloom,
released to droop like pearl of snow
or day-time lamp, perennial show
that nature’s chemistry, on ‘slow’,
requickens: springtime swards re-grow.
Strident signals, splashing yellow
sturdy flagpoles, blue-green, hollow;
trumpets flourished swaying, sounding,
so successfully announcing
winter’s finished, warmth’s increasing,
longer, brighter days arriving.
Golden ‘seas’ are undulating,
gentle breeze their song’s pulsating.
Stormy gales can wreck and flatten,
batter down, wreak havoc; – listen!
– Still you see and hear the champion,
bright forerunner’s dazzling clarion.
Greening hawthorn, lush thick meadow,
willow tinged with greenish-yellow,
from the earth now leaves emerging
softly-edged mosaic-like covering
for the bank, as yet anonymous,
’til their buds unfurl, reveal to us
anticipated floral flush.
Monnow valley – gentle, calm,
whispering river, – soothing balm,
hills enclose, its set apart,
bird song, – shadows flit and dart;
by the water, wagtail grey
(tinged with yellow), soon away;
sprouting buds, windflowers unfolding,
lambs high pitched in range of bleating,
sparkling celandines, sun reflecting,
laughing daffodils, – warmth’s returning.

Hi Rhiannon
Hi Rhiannon
It is lovely to read about spring, even though we are coming into another patchwork collage with all the autumn changes. I expect I will find a poem about that sometime soon.
