‘Scout leader said our shoes must be polished –
I’m late, can you do it, Mum?’
    “Do it yourself!”

‘Can you drive me to town in an hour
so I can watch this match, first?’
    “No! Go sooner, walk or bike – yourself!”

‘Why aren’t there any clean socks in my drawer?’
“I washed any that were in the basket.”
‘Didn’t you check my floor?’
    “No! Clear it yourself! – or
    wash them yourself!”

Thanks, memories of scenes noted down the years. Doesn't help teens for Mums (or Dads) to become slaves – training is hard! Rhiannon

!laugh I remember my daughter's mother-in-law talking about her son wondering why he hadn't any clean socks as he found a whole pile of dirties in his bedroom … I think he extracted a dirty pair to put on for the time being!

It can be very hard knowing when to be firm … at that age they want to feel independent, sometimes! Having to wake themselves up in the morning for a job is another one. Rhiannon

yes, trying to explain finding clean socks is not like finding it's a sunny day - you can have some influence over it :0) You may not control the weather but you can move the mountain of smelly underwear...

the waking up thing is about to become an even bigger issue here (bad enough now!) as starting at a new school needing a 2 hour commute!

Wow! I was actually thinking of my eldest son when he was about 17 getting an early morning cleaning job with a friend before sixth form college. We said he must get himelf up and he agreed, and I think he did oversleep the first morning, but never after! Good training (but tempting to listen out for him, but I think I slept on!) Rhiannon
