Their quarters and ours each side of a door.
I hear her voice the other side and decide to explore.
I open the door, and there she is – a little girl in the nearly dark.
“This is my cave”, she says in that small hall-way.
Dimly I see her stand, with five more
shut doors surrounding – one for the store,
one for the kitchen, one for the loo,
bedrooms behind the other two.
Over the bathroom door is a little window (transom),
and so her cave isn’t totally black,
just dark enough to feel eerie and fun.
“Hello, this is my cave. You do the washing up!”

That little girl sounds like she has the wild imagination I had as a young child. Is this based on your granddaughter?
Lovely read Rhiannon.
Jenny.
