Two Photographs, 30 years apart…

A photograph:
bright young thing –
twenty-something
glamorous, flirtatious,
vivacious,
self-centred.

Another photograph:
thirty years later –
weary, jaded,
prematurely aged,
make-up disguise,
no spark in the eyes.

Could there have been more to life …?
Is it too late
to find a purpose …
even now?
See, you young ones,
don’t waste and wait!

Inspired by two such photos seen of someone. The older you get the more you see such change and consequence, still time for a fresh start …

[IP: something about connection between meeting someone in the past and present, but I wasn’t totally clear, so not sure if this is what is wanted in the category!]

that is an interesting response to the IP. If looking back at oneself full of hope, in a difficult present makes now harder to bear, or inspires courage to try for change which will need chance and strength to succeed?

Thank you for your comment, Di. What you say is interesting, but I think you are applying it personally.

I was thinking of someone who I think hadn't much interest and hope except in enjoying success and an exciting and flirtitious life, and became gloomy and cynical, as time changed popularity and disappointments came. For such a person there is always hope to have a change of ambition, satisfaction and heart. More than chance, there is a need for prayer as God can indeed help such. (I put this under 'biography' not 'autobiography', the latter being of oneself. I'm aware they are used as if the same quite often on site I think.) Rhiannon

I'm sorry I was a bit late reading this last night, and probably didn't follow properly.

You home in on someone looking back and realisng disappointed hopes, and either being just cast down, or taking courage to look afresh at aims. I had in mind someone who didn't seem to have had much thought when young of aims, except to have fun, and expecting that to continue always. And now, just disillusioned with the youthful fun not being accessible any more,  — will she look for something better? Rhiannon

Enjoyed the juxtaposition of photos taken years apart. The question asked in the poem is one many ask themselves. Often the answer is no. A thought provoking piece, for sure. Paul

Accepting His invitation for a relationship, He comes as His Holy Spirit to be with us always, and then, though there maybe many falls and failures, we always have constant sure hope, and a Helper to pick up again! Rhiannon
