The Ugly and the Beautiful

Continuing the idea of one of my old hymns on Sundays:
They were filled with venom,
bitter, scheming, sly,
did not like his wisdom,
wanted him to die.
Judas, thief and traitor,
chose to leave, betray,
spurned his Master, Saviour,
turned against his Way.
Beautiful the contrast:
perfume, love, outpoured,
now the scent encompassed,
honouring her Lord.
Rash their rushing judgement:
this was not a waste –
imminent assignment
so immense he faced:
Treatment harsh and vicious
leading to the grave,
though he’d be victorious,
hard his route to save.
Tune: 65 65
‘The chief priests and the teachers of the law were looking for some sly way to arrest Jesus and kill him … a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head.
Some of those present were saying indignantly to one another, “Why this waste of perfume? It could have been sold for more than a year’s wages and the money given to the poor” And they rebuked her harshly.
“Leave her alone,” said Jesus. “Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. The poor you will always have with you, and you can help them any time you want. But you will not always have me. She did what she could. She poured perfume on my body beforehand to prepare for my burial. I tell you the truth, wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her.”
Then Judas Iscariot, one of the Twelve went to the chief priest to betray Jesus to them. Mark 14:1-11
(also John 12:4-6 about Judas' involvement wanting that money for himself)

Very inspired!
It's always so wonderful when the hymns strike our creative Souls and the old merges with the new.
Thanks so much for sharing.
Blessings

Hi Rhiannon
Hi Rhiannon
Do the people in your church sing your words to the hymns regularly? Have you made your own hymn book of them? They are so well done.
