The way back

Will all be discovered?
sleep disturbed;
his plans have recovered –
one folly has served
to warn him of lures
with bite in the bait,
now agony ensures
regret that is late.
Should he speak of his lapse?
be honest, confess?
will they give any credence
to his stated repentance,
or ostracize, lynch, and condemn,
unconvinced?

All is known,
has always been known
to the ears of heaven,
sincerity assessed,
awareness of change
that is real:
there, all can be forgiven
when truly confessed.
