When bad news is good news

[Continuing the hymn-for-Sundays series]

Yes, bad news can be good news
if it wakes us up to see
what’s wrong, and that we’re needing
to listen carefully.

Like if we have a warning
of danger imminent –
a coming great tsunami
that we cannot prevent.

We’d gladly go to shelter,
not carry on with play:
the bad news makes us heed and,
escape-route rules obey.

So, Jesus firstly taught us
the bad news of our sin
against the righteous Lord who
judgement must one day bring.

But He had come to earn, win
a pardon for us, peace,
to pay the price, be punished
to purchase our release.

So that is why its called now
the ‘gospel’ – God’s ‘good news’.
The Saviour suffered agonies –
gift purchased don’t refuse.

But some ignore this good news
because they don’t accept
the bad news, see no danger,
salvation free reject.

    Bad news shows our need so
    the good news don’t neglect,

Thanks. You seem to remember quite a lot from your Sunday School! Then search them out later in the Bible.

Sometimes people don't take an interest though because no-one has told them about sin and repentance and so they don't see the need for or the value of mercy and grace and returning to the Lord God, and then also don't realise the wonderful fellowship that comes from knowing Him. Rhiannon

Many passages from the Bible were taken and put to music and we sang them like, "silver and gold have I none, but such have I give unto you .. " and choruses there were quite a few that Sunday School was very nice. It was the Methodist Church "put your  hand in the hand of the man that stilled the waters ..." , "and by this shall all men know that you are my disciples..." I thought today I must get to a church but my circumstances currently don't allow it, long stories. I will attend when I can I'm not joking. Meantime there is the radio. There would obviously be many people with well meant advice. Not being funny. And Christianity is not all only about salvation.

Fellowship with those who have come to know the Lord and walking with him is very helpful to spirit and practical living. Sadly not all so-called churches preach the Bible well, including the gospel. But there are those which have good and helpful exposition of the scriptures and love. Again on the internet one has to be careful what to listen to, and I suppose the same is with radio. I hope you find something useful there. Also again many very helpful books around now, but others that are no use. My husband does some work for DayOne Publications, which are based here, but probably have suppliers in South Africa. Rhiannon
