When it looks like defeat …

[Continuing the hymn-for-Sundays series]
“I was dead, but now am alive evermore”.
‘He started out well, but his work is no more.’
Friends melted away. In the kangaroo court,
‘Blasphemer,’ they said, and the death sentence sought.
The evidence scorned, and weak Pilate gave in,
the innocent killed, though divine: Did they win?
Look! Up from the grave He, victorious, arose,
our pardon thus purchased, He’d conquered His foes.
And so we are freed from due justice, sin’s grasp,
and Jesus draws many to turn, His gift clasp.
Death’s curse has been killed through that death on the cross,
and grace now brings life to replace all that loss.
He’s building His church now, though Satan still tries
to sow greed, confusion and, subtly, ‘sweet’ lies.
His church looks today so declining and frail;
but don’t be discouraged, His work cannot fail.
Don’t scorn prematurely – it wasn’t defeat
at the cross, and His rule here will soon be complete!
His day will soon come when His reign we will see,
His triumph acknowledged, all will bow the knee.

humiliation and victory
"Death’s curse has been killed through that death on the cross, and grace now brings life to replace all that loss."
Well said, your greatest victory is in your worst humiliation and defeat, sometimes of a sin like admitting you have some or other problem and trust and handing over. Or an attitude, or perhaps submitting to authority. And then repentance and a new life.
And yes Rhiannon, every knee shall bow and every tongue confess.
Have a good week! Nolan &
