Who has believed our report … (Isaiah 53:1)

How unbelievably foretold
700 years before
– born quietly to humble home
to bear such suffering sore.
And silent under scorn, attack,
killed as a criminal
– he’d done no violence or deceit:
Jesus fulfilled it all.
It’s unbelievable to know
this suffering was for us
and we deserve the grief and death,
but he was stricken thus,
so he could justify each one
– like sheep we’ve gone astray,
but God has not disdained our plight
– sent Christ to make a way.
Why should the Father and the Son
and Spirit care to save
at such great cost? – can you believe
it was for mighty love?
His joy in those who grace receive
and rescued to his side,
enabled him to bear the pain
and anguish as he died.
