Look over the river Teme with its weirs, circling below;
at the castle rooted firmly above the water, on the other side
with the nowadays town surrounding,
and look over the town, past the near hill,
towards Brown Clee Hill, with its masts,
and scan right (off to the right of this photo)
to the slightly lower, lopsided and slightly pointed
Titterstone Clee Hill with its observatory that catches the sunlight
(fort of fiction in Ellis Peters’ ‘Virgin in the Ice’).

The view you've created with words is spectacular. I just love castles and the one in your photo shows so much of the antiquity of the past, a period of impressions I find so appealing, with a backdrop of a distant neighbouring town and far distant hills.

Whitcliffe Common seems like such an amazing view point, it even has a bench to relax where you can take in the scene. Absolutely glorious place to visit. Wish I could just snap my fingers and be there, if just for ten minutes and then transported home again. But at least you took me there with your words which is wonderful.

I'm so glad you so enjoyed, Jenny. Yes, this view is quite something, and the castle is impressive to visit and to see like this, high above the river. We went for a short walk, and on our return, the light was much brighter to get a clear view and photograph. Rhiannon

I liked "nowadays town" very much, and the contrast of "firmly rooted" castle, with the masts and observatory both looking to the sky. Agree with Jenny, feel wonderfully transported by both your poem and brilliant photo. Is pouring with rain and very windy here just now :0)

I'm not a fisherman (-woman)! That morning we didn't go down to river level, but it is a lovely river and I gather is very good fishing! Rhiannon

Yes, thanks. It has been rather wild though. You've had the worse of other storms I suspect! My husband took my son in to work by car rather than him cycle this morning. Rhiannon

I thought you were a granny? Well it could be I guess, those days there were very large families it was not uncommon my one uncle is a year younger than me.

Well I'm glad you prevailed on the storm some very unusual weather here also.

The storm has quietened somewhat for now.

I am a granny, Tom. Our children do range in age, and the youngest is married with young children, and they live in the annexe of our house at present! Rhiannon

That's good :0) Thankyou for letting me know!  We were supposed to get 20cm of snow tomorrow, but just fog on the weatherforecast the last time I looked, which is a big difference!
