Wooded slope above the Wye
burbling, bubbling bird-song high
in the canopy, soft earth tread    
down to a waving buttercup spread
to lunch, the river gliding by,
and wedgwood overarching sky,
then bankside stroll, and in the distance
cuckoo calls with May insistence;
ash leaves from their buds are squirting –
while those of oak, expanded, waft,
pale green foliage, fragile, soft –
completed now their squeezed out spurting.
Sweet woodruff’s sprung up in profusion     –
leaves like goose-grass, tiny white
star-like flowers, dainty bright,
and yellow archangel sunlight catches
reflecting back in cheerful splashes,
woodside edge gold-petalled patches.

Thank you, Vera. I'm so glad you thought so. It was a lovely walk, and my daughter had requested a poem or photo as she was stuck in school teahing, and I had forgotten my camera! it took a while to capture what conveyed the scene though. regards, Rhiannon

Rhiannon, before I read your words about your daughter, and that photo, I was going to say who needs a camera when wonderful words such as these are used to describe a place somewhere.  You really do have that skill of taking your readers along with you on those walks of yours.  A more than well deserved cherry.

Thank you so much for your words, Tina. You yourself take the reader into nature views so frequently. And I'm so glad you walked the walk with me! We do appreciate our Wednesday afternoons  (especially when the weather is good for a little walk) when we are given someone to come in to sit so we can leave our caring responsibilities and get out together, though sometimes it feels like 'watch watching' to make sure we don't roam too far to get back in time (like getting back to the school gate in time, long ago!), but soon we are able to have a break away, so maybe the walks will be more leisurely! What a lovely poem Rhiannon!  I could feel the warmth and almost smell the seasons' smells.  An oasis for me in a busy week.  Well deserving of 'Pick'.
