ANDRE IS SPELLED "ADD" story

Some children are good spellers.

Andre is too. His name has five letters. It has a little stick over the e.

He is from a French Canadian family.

Andre is special.

He runs and twists. And talks, talks and yells. His mother needs so much energy, just to keep up with him.

He has Attention Deficit. Another name for it is ADD. But he can also be full of fun.

The doctor says Andre is healthy. All he needs is a little help from everyone. His mother and father understand what he needs, lots of patience.

His friends also must learn to be patient.

Andre is a windmill, a runner and a tumbler. He can shout and jump. And talk all at once.

The doctor tells his mom he needs some medicine help. Not only love and hugs. But a little pill too. It's called Ritalin.

A special pill is for this special boy. It can make Andre slow down a little bit.

Now he can stay close to his friends. And not just run and jump ahead. His friends don't have to yell, "Andre wait up for us. OKAY?"

Now, it's a different story, with a happy ending.

Andre is loved and cared for. His friends now understand him. And his mom and dad are much happier.

Everyone knows hugs and love are good. But Andre is definitely happier when he has good friends too.

When you see him in front of your yard, you'll spot a happy, special little boy. He's in the middle of all the noise and fun.

Not on the outside, watching everyone else.

Look closely at this happy and friendly boy, with a little stick on his name.

Now Andre is spelled Andre.
