Action is what a partridge really likes.
If only this bundle of feathers was an airplane
then fly-fly-flying across the lake
would always be easy.

A bear is a big animal.
But is able to hide beneath tall pine trees
while bald eagles have a better view.

A hill that climbs up high.
And a bald eagle’s head is like a crown.
He can see the faraway sea.
D can explain…
Perry flies down into a puddle.
Then he darts in a hurry along the ground.
And looks for a place to dry out.
E has to do…
With Perry looking for food each day.
Early morning breakfast is cranberries.
He eats quickly in the woods.
F is for a…
Fact that winds bring rain.
Then fast flowing water flows into streams.
Where animals drink and fish swim.
G is for…
Good eagles that don’t eat partridge.
Gophers taste much better.
Perry flies away and is gone quickly.
H is like…
A tree house where Perry can rest.
His best friend Hooty owl is there.
They plan to go on a hike and have a picnic.
I begins the word…
Island, a place of excitement.
So Perry practices flying inside the forest.
That is more fun instead of running.
J is for…
Blue Jays eating at the bird feeder.
And Bushy Red jumps from tall tree to tree.
Hooty Owl jokes about the weather.
K means…
Being far from home is kind of dangerous.
But friends know they are safe together.
Maybe karate will protect them.
L is for…
Land around a small pond.
And where three friends like to stop.
They look at the beautiful view.
M is when…
The month of May is a warm time.
There is much to see before Coyotes come.
They also make a home in the woods.
N means…
There is nothing to fear from that eagle.
He flies near then goes high.
The bald eagle is also Perry’s nice friend.
O is for…
An oak tree branch where Perry rests.
He knows it is okay to stay there.
No one objects even for a half hour.
P begins…
Perry Partridge, a name with power.
He made all their plans today.
Now perhaps they have come far enough.
Q is for…
Quick as a pigeon, Perry gets up.
He falls off the branch into mucky quicksand.
This is also quite a surprise to him.
R is for…
Rabbit, that hops around and around.
He races to nibble the grass.
Hurry before rain soaks it all down.
S sounds like…
A snake, that sneaks around looking for mice.
And seeks them out in secret spots.
Bushy Red the quick squirrel watches them.
T means…
It is time for friends to play games.
And play tricks on each other.
Even throwing mud balls can be fun.
U is for…
Perry who is an unhappy umpire.
He bumps his head under the fallen tree.
Bushy Red is also unhappy his friend is sad.
V is when…
Friends sit and view the forest below.
Their loud voices soon return.
As echoes that come back for a visit.
W has to be…
When are we going home?
Words are more than a whisper.
Perry, Hooty and Bushy Red fly and walk back.
