the shadow of a pine’s
silhouette
an everyday sky
peers --
it’s evening again
a time to shut down
to sleep
and dwell on what has occurred
this day --
the rasp of an antler against
bark of trembling aspen
scraping claw
against rocky surface
and splashing in shallows
as a rainbow flips
windy nudges
against parading ferns
more like flags – a pride in
natural heritage
to sleep and dream
once
more.
