Between the Pages

Lay on your back and dream dreams
of life and events this moment --
the sun is warm on his chest
the swim refreshing
water bathing his wounded spirit
feel the grass and its natural innocence.
Flip – his wife makes breakfast early
a favourite
two eggs sunny up
two toast
four sausages. Coffee with a trickle
of milk.
Flip – sounds of waves splashing
an invitation to the shoreline
ferns lashed by windy elements
from the far side of the bay
undulating calls from a loon add
accent to the day.
Flip – childrens’ needs desires
young lives into older living
too much too soon
a wife’s love from enchantment
to bliss. Years a whirlwind of
activities events and glorious extensions.
Flip – rain comes as a shadow
unrepentant and intrusive
shelter and warmth. A hunger for truth
her smile tucked safely in his heart.
