Beyond Innocence

We plant faith climbing
a maple tree, one carefully
placed foot at a time. It’s
smudged in autumn colours
as we seek a world view
from the hilly side
of town. Where some big
shots live. Unknown to them
we’re climbing
their best parkland tree.
Sparrows bully finch,
chickadees seek attention.
They appear to be
debating their prowess
within updrafts. We
also see swimmers
and boathouses
from on high. We almost
reach the clouds. Touching
them with fantasy
we watch awestruck, lives
beginning their stretch.
