stood rigidly on
the snow laying thinly
on a backyard porch.
The sun beat gently on its
puffed up chest – blue
and white stood out on
his layer of white:
eyes squint – the feeder
with remains from his last
snack a mixture of grain
and black-eyed seed. He’s
waiting for his mate
than after an early sup
they’ll head off into the wilds.
They have plans.
