There goes that Gene Autry
song once more –
Back in the Saddle Again
on a hit parade of memories
when boys sought out
a hero or two
with Roy Rogers
one of them too.
Those cap-gun days of glory
when neighbourhood girls were
claimed as ladies in distress
young damsels
who captured our hearts too.
And moms and dads patient
with our glorious quests
as we blasted bandits --
cap guns
blazing -- feet a-stompin’
across hallway floors.
Those days are gone but
not the memory
of eyes fixated on our duty
to save our town from evil ones.
Sometimes when I think
about those good ole days
I stand in bold intent
and let go with a loud Yahoo!
