10 am and the gates are opened
children in strollers -- mothers bouncing
along and seniors shuffling forward
a stream of folks coming
alive at the click of a key.
Through the tunnel – across the bridge
past destination’s signage
Choice of Savannah – Canadian Forest and
Asian Delights await.
Giraffes looking down up and around
two Gorillas chasing their youth
Whitetails wary
Ostrich scraping necks in nibbles
Snakes -- Bats and Mice entertaining
one building’s
moisture and darkness creating
atmosphere for visitors.
Children scatter -- duck and shout
baby carriages following mothers tiring
the sun is hot – feet exhausted
tummies full of snacks – picnic stops
and Zoo gazing
then time to head for home.
