Can’t Figure Out

why cottagers keep coming
from the big city
in their fancy limos

trying to get away from it all
in so-called
back to the land homes
with air conditioning
and hot water

Jacuzzis and million dollar
trappings
with wrap-around decks

large enough for a ballroom
where their ladies wear
evening dresses
high heel shoes and champagne
glass in hand.

And men chewing on a cigar
hoisting a few
as they tall-tale their
way through the latest outdoor

adventure from a plasma TV.

I join them for a night cap as the
setting sun blinks
a good night kiss then
hightail it inside before mosquitoes
come to join the fun.
